Story of a simple Delhi based girl who’s life changes unexpectedly. Rani Mehra, a simple middle class, conservative girl has her dreams shattered when her to be husband leaves her stranded at the altar.
She then goes into depression, and then with her will power, goes out all alone in the world and comes home with a transformed personality of that of self confidence and living life her way.
Rani (Kangana Ranaut) is a young Delhi girl, getting married in a couple of days. The film opens with her mehendi ceremony and the preparations for staging her marriage. Rani Mehra is engaged to a London returned fiance Vijay (Rajkumar Rao) who is her father’s friend’s son and she has known him for quite a while.
In flashbacks it is shown how Vijay is interested in the girl and applies all the tactics of a North Indian guy who wants to impress the girl of his liking. Rani is often disturbed while studying for her home science course, however she finds the guy interesting and finally gives in and then their parents seemed to have approved the match.
More than getting married, Rani is thrilled with the idea of going for her honeymoon to Paris and Amsterdam. She has even closed her bank account and done their air and hotel bookings.
Just a day before the marriage, Vijay calls off his wedding. Rani is heartbroken, stays locked all by herself in her room. Her grandmother explains that all is not lost, and life is much more than what has happened. Rani then decides to go on the honey moon – the one she’s always been planning – by herself.
Her parents, initially skeptical about the idea, but they realise that its worth giving her the chance if it brings her all the happiness. They even drop her to the airport and then Rani begins a journey towards self discovery. The girl who’s never left her house alone now goes to Paris and Amsterdam on her own.
Initially feeling out of place and a bit puzzled, she gathers self confidence and even makes new friends. The first one being Lisa Haydon who is working in a hotel in Paris, who takes her out sight-seeing and clubs. It is here that the conservative middle class Delhiite girl gathers confidence in her and finds happiness in her own self.
What follows is a fun, quirky journey of Rani who discovers herself, while exploring the unknown.
Vikas Bahl, the director very beautifully portrays the gradual transformation of Kangana Ranaut’s middle class personality to that of a self assured female in the end.
Kangana has come up with a realistic performance, Lisa Haydon as the girl in Paris fits into her character with ease, while Rajkummar Rao has just a brief role as that of the indecisive groom. It has good music, and the ‘Hungama ho gaya’ is worth a special mention for its foot tapping beats.
This film is worth a watch that has you smile all throughout. Why should boys have all the fun?
